Beautiful Book Hangover: Divergent by Veronica Roth

Beautiful Book Hangover will be posted sporadically on La Femme Readers. According to the Urban Dictionary, "a book hangover is a headache you get after staying up into the wee hours of the morning staring at teeny tiny print." As book addicts we've all experienced this type of hangover many times, so why not share them with each other? You are more than welcome to use this idea, just as long as you credit me.

Book Hangover Choice:

Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth
Reading Level: Young Adult
Release Date: Available Now
Pages: 496

Summary: In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her. Debut author Veronica Roth bursts onto the literary scene with the first book in the Divergent series—dystopian thrillers filled with electrifying decisions, heartbreaking betrayals, stunning consequences, and unexpected romance.

Why it kept me up: I am obsessed with this book! I finished it last week and I'm still thinking about it. If you missed my review, check it out here. I have no words for this phenomenal debut, that's how speechless it left me. It has action, romance, bad-ass characters -- just everything I look for in a novel, especially a dystopian one! I loved it and I recommend it to everyone who enjoys an amazing plot that will blow your mind.

Time of sleep: 2:00 AM (Thank God it was during the weekend!)

Which book kept you up all night this week?

This is exactly why I started this book when I had tons of time to devote to it! It still kept me up late into the night, but man was it worth it! What an amazing book!

Oh, I do so love a good book hangover (much less painful than a self-induced one!) and DIVERGENT gave me one, too! So many amazing details and great characters. Can't wait for the next one.

I completely agree with you on this one. The characters and other elements definitely give you something to think about as you stare at the ceiling awake at night.

Oh, I adored this book. I was up until 3am on its release and I *still* haven't written my review because I want it to be perfect. I think I may need to reread it before I do so. I'm glad you loved it though - it had me thinking for a long time afterward.

I just started this but have to put it aside so I can read my books for the YA Book Battle :(

I can't wait to get back to Beatrice's story though. I can see why you were up late reading it.
