What is the worst book to movie adaptation you've ever seen?
My Response: Twilight. Either you hate it or love it. I love the books and probably forever will. I am grateful to that series since it started my YA obsessed addiction. When I first heard they were making a movie adaptation I was thrilled. However, once I actually watched it, disappointment took over. Firstly, I hated Kristen Stewart as Bella. Her acting skills irked me throughout the movie. Also, the choice for Edward was eh. Yeah he is cute, but the Edward I pictured was breathtakingly handsome. Luckily, the only character that saved the movies was Jacob. Taylor is gorgeous and his acting is spot on. Besides that, I do own the movies just for the hell of it. But, they for sure didn't live up to the actual books. Did anybody else have the same feeling?

Twilight: Eclipse takes the cake here. I actually liked the first movie and if i'm being honest i really liked the first book. But not so much the rest of the series. New Moon was a really bad movie but Eclipse was just horrible in my opinion. In Eclipse they took over-acting to a new level. And the make up and special effects? Not to mention the products they were peddling. Eish! Maybe i'm biased because Elcipse was my least favorite of the seires and I was bordering on contempt for a while after reading it?
Eragon. That movie was so bad, it was almost pathetic. The only thing that made it tolerable was the CGI of Saphira.
Although, admittedly, Twilight does pull a close second! ;)
I think the Twilight movies are flawed, but I don't know how they could have been done better. What I liked best about the first movie is that they took it seriously - if anything followed the book too closely. Other directors and actors could have made a joke out of the movie. I liked Catherine's edgy, gritty take on the first one. It was good for a low budget and a few really bad lines. Kristen and Rob weren't the best actors in the first movie but they've really improved. Taylor is pretty good too, although I'm biased against him b/c I don't find him attractive (silly me).

Eragon. The acting wasn't horrible, the CGI wasn't horrible, but WHERE DID THE PLOT GO?! WHERE!?!?!?!?!
I have to agree with what everyone has said. The Twilight movies are so cringe-worthy, but Eragon is just plain dreadful. The books are so amazing and the movie? Not so much...
I'm not really sure on the Twilight movies because I saw the first movie BEFORE I read the books. So if anything I was thinking, "Man, this book is WAY better than the movie!" I didn't see it the other way around that the movie didn't live up to the book...If that makes sense. :)
Twilight, but not because of the acting, though it could have been better. I felt like the directing and the screen play where too weird and they where trying to make it edgy and cool instead of following the beauty in the story
Twilight. I watched the movie before the book, had to read the books after I watched it and after I read the books, I was like this was so poorly done. My favorite of the movies is the first one fore sure. but one thing is if you make a movie don’t freckin’ change the director or look every single movie. you can tell and it makes me think this is a different freckin’ version like 10 years later version or remake. I mean edward and bella, scratch that all the characters look completely different in each movie. Some changes are welcome, but I think the way the characters look in the first movie should’ve been kept. I admit I like bella’s look in New Moon the best though. I could go on and on how these were sooooo poorly done but I would probally take up like 50 pages of spce...hahaha.
Blood and Chocolate. Love the book and was really excited when it was turned into a movie. But was disappointed. They changed a lot of things for the movie and for me it was ruined.
Eragon was terrible, but the one that upset me the most was the complete re-write they did of Ella Enchanted. I absolutely loved the book and loved how strong Ella was--she rescued herself from the ogres, she didn't have to wait for the prince. I have never understood why they feel they need to re-write books that are bestsellers on their own. If the story was good enough that people would purchase it and spend valuable time reading it--why do they think they need to completely revamp the story for a 2 hr movie. Baffled.
Lol, as much as I agree that the TWILIGHT adapt sucked, my personal worst adaptation was THE LIGHTNING THIEF. That movie should have never happened. It was horrible! they changed, like, everything! Okay, now I need to go brew some coffee because I've got myself all worked up again.

The Count of Monte Cristo. That book was probably the only one I was required to read in school and actually liked - I still aspire to reread it one day in the future.
While I will admit the movie was actually pretty good (if you had never read the book), it was NOTHING at all like the book. The characters had the same names, and that's about the end of the similarity. Why make a movie adaptation if you are just going to change around the plot lines and completely change the ending? It made me so mad because the book was genius, and didn't need to be altered.
The thing about Twilight is that it's so horrible that it crossed the line and became hilarious, and I spent most of the movie laughing. So if you think of it as a comedy, it's actually quite enjoyable. Eragon, on the other hand, was an absolute travesty. I get a pain in my head just thinking about it.
Twilight, Marley and Me, Inkheart, Percy Jackson....don't get me started!! I generally don't have much luck watching movies after I've read the books! Isn't going to stop me from seeing Water for Elephants though.
The adaptation of Ella Enchanted. They made it far too girly. Normally I don't mind a little bit of girly, but this barely stuck to the plot. Ugh.
Not YA, but many of Stephen King's books to movies didn't work. Especially The Lawnmower Man.
His books are so intricate they've been really difficult to translate into film.

Before I even read your answer, I thought of Twilight -- no contest. It was physically painful to see that appalling adaptation. I agree with you about Taylor -- he's the only thing worth watching. I'll stop now before I launch into a full-on rant. I try to repress the memory of seeing that train wreck. I do think New Moon and Eclipse were marginally better, but still pretty awful.
i liked the first twilight movie, others were ok. However my thoughts of Tyler acting are opposit. i found him kind of fake; also he is just too pretty. While guy who plays Edward i find that he plays Edward spot on. He has that character spot on. whereas Girl that Plays Bella is very awkward, but than again Bella's character is very awkward too, which works out perfectly.
First, the two honorable mentions: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which invented a new plot, and executed it badly. And then there's The Dark is Rising, which was so poorly adapted that they even changed the title.
But the absolute worst that I've ever seen was the version of Les Miserables starring Liam Neeson. Full disclosure: Les Mis is my favorite book, ever. I'm reading it right now for the fifth time. And this movie... Ugh. The ending still makes me feel all ragey a decade later.
Haha Ella Enchanted. I didn't even like the book but the movie was worse. :P
The Lightning Thief. In the novel, you're unsure for most of the book as to which God's son Percy is and they just blab it right there. Plus it just missed a whole lot of everything in it.
