Announcements:

-If you haven't heard yet, The Hunger Games movie finally has a release date: March 23, 2012! CDinsight.com states, "Lionsgate picked up the exclusive writes to the film adaptation last year. The book series, which features a very gritty tale of a girl surviving a murderous competition, has been a global hit, netting 3.3 million copies in just the US. While the story is very dark at times, producer Gary Ross (Seabiscuit, Pleasantville) has promised he will keep the movie PG-13 to not alienate any of its many younger fans. Ross will begin shooting in the late spring. No cast has been announced, though some rumors point at Hailee Steinfield for the main character, Katniss Everdeen."

If the rumor of Hailee Steinfield playing Katniss comes true, I think she'd make a great looking character, but can she act well? I'm also not thrilled with the whole "keeping it PG-13" - the book is pretty detailed so I hope they don't ruin it. :( But, it is understandable since reaching out to younger audiences will be a huge goal for them. What do you all think?

-Currently, Book Drum is hosting a book tournament where book lovers from all over the world (including the US) can delve deep into a favourite book and, by building an illustrated profile, share their enthusiasm for it with the rest of the world. The 2010 Book Drum Tournament saw seven Contributors share £2,000 of prizes, and led to eight talented writers being commissioned to write and edit new profiles on the strength of their entries. Hundreds of people took part, creating many of the excellent Profiles now freely available for everyone to enjoy.

First Prize: £1,000
Second Prize: £500
Third Prize: £250
5 Runner-Up Prizes: £100

Hailee would be great as Katniss! She OWNED True Grit, which is pretty impressive working alongside Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon who were also great. She also fits the physical description of Katniss much more than other folks who have been rumored to be in consideration for the role.

Looks like some good books this week, how will you choose what to read first? By looks alone she will make a good Katnis and hopefully they are figuring acting talent in as well since so much of it revolves around her. (Honestly there really aren't any scenes she wasn't in in the books that I can think of. Hmmm..)

Great mailbox! I'm really looking forward to Gemini Bites & The Iron Witch!
I think Hailee is a fabulous actress, but a bit on the young side, she just turned 14 in December. Maybe she could play one of the other tributes. I can't wait to see who they cast...so excited about the movie! As for the rating, I don't mind that its going to be PG-13. I agree with what the director said, if you make it R then you alienate many of the younger fans, and its their book too! Plus you can show violence and death without making it overly graphic.

Can she act? Have you seen True Grit? She carries the film. Amazing young actress. Only shame in her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress is that it should have been for Best Actress.

I am so on board with this actress! I think she's perfect. I hope you enjoy your books! Mad Love was cute- a little on the young side for me. I'm reading the Iron Witch now. :)

Wow, wonderful mailbox! Mad Love looks really good. I can't wait until the Hunger Games movie comes out, I just finished reading the first book a while ago. I think Hailee would make a pretty awesome Katniss, she looks the part, I just hope she can act well too. I think they'll be able to portray the book accurately with the PG-13 rating, a lot of PG-13 movies are able to get away with a ton nowadays. I think as long as they use some creativity for some of the violence stuff it'll turn out well.

I'm very weary of The Hunger Games becomming a movie, i mean look at what happened to twilight (no offense to fans) but all that overacting...just translates to bad acting. I'll be picky no matter who they choose to play Katniss and Peeta and Hammich. Still even though my brain is saying 'tread lightly' i can't wait to see what they come out with.

hmmmm, yes, seinfelds daughter just comes across as sooo young, and Katniss shouldn't. if nothing her experiences have aged her greatly. But I guess we'll see. It seems to be a super coveted spot, best bet will be an unknown.
