Monday's Question of the Day!

*You are welcome to use my meme - just credit me please*

Question:
When you're reading do you need a quiet environment to focus or can you read through a natural disaster?

My Answer: I'm used to reading around noisy areas such as my house (brother can be really loud), train, etc. I do prefer to read in a quiet environment however sometimes it doesn't work in my favor. But, I do notice when I can focus I tend to lose myself in the story faster. When it's noisy I have to re-read some parts.

I'd love to know your thoughts, so leave me a comment :) Have a question idea? E-mail me at lafemmereaders@yahoo.com and I'll give you credit!

LOL @ your brother.

I love going somewhere quiet and private so I can get totally immersed in the book :)

I need quiet.
I wish I could read through noise.
I envy people who can read anywhere :)

I can read through a hurricane! Well, as long as the pages aren't ripping out and rain is blurring the type or... Well, you get the idea. I become totally absorbed and oblivious!

I need quiet. Otherwise, i can't concentrate and/or i have to read more slowly. Also, I can't write with music/loud noises so these are connected. i can read on the train-but the words don't sink in as much as they would as if i was somewhere quiet.

Having two noisy nephews coming into my room when i'm trying to read doesn't help matters.

I know what you mean by your loud brother. Mine is 3 years younger than me, but he's taller and noisier than me :P

By the way, I answered the question on my blog (http://mariamaarouf.blogspot.com/2010/07/mondays-question-of-day_12.html). Of course, I mentioned that the meme's yours.

depends on the book, for me. if it's a book that draws me in, I'm in. my brother-in-law just laughed and commented at my focus last weekend as I was reading Jellicoe Road while my kids basically tore each other limb from limb in the background.

but if I'm not feeling it...ugh, I'm so easily distracted!

I prefer quiet when I read so that I can really concentrate, but the private doesn't have to be. I actually like being in a room with other people while I am reading, as long as they aren't interrupting me all the time

I can read with the TV on and music playing, so I guess I can read under any conditions! Must be that male selective focus...

I can read almost anywhere! Except in a car or on a plane :( My best spot is the bath though! I can stay in there forever :)

I can read through anything. I read standing in line if possible and can even read walking.

I don't know how people read in the bath. I can't do it! Don't the pages get wet? I wouldn't like that to happen to any book.

I can read in any sound environment, from the quietness of my car early in the morning before classes, or in the packed, noisy (and sometimes dangerous if you don't look out for flying objects) quad at my college.

As long as I'm liking the story, I don't even notice if it's quiet or loud ;)

I prefer a quiet space, but I can read in any environment. I get a lot of reading done on the subway commuting to work, and it can get noisy depending on the time of day.

I cannot possibly concentrate when reading in a noisy environment! My family's and neighbors greek and my reading in english get all mixed up and it's just a mess! That's why I prefer reading at night, when everyone else is asleep.

Definitely need my quiet (I know sounds strange for a deaf person to say). The thing is I use my eyes to hear with so if there is a lot of commotion, stomping, anything that vibrates the floor. I'll constantly look up to see what it is. Very distracting when you're reading or writing.

My favorite time to read is right before bed. Reading tunes the days events out and I'm able to relax. It's become such a habit, if I don't read before I go to sleep, I'll end tossing and turning all night. (Hugs)Indigo

Quiet environment, I can't have any noise it distracts me. Though if I'm on a bus or at school I'll force myself to read/ignore the noise.

I do find it hard to read in chaos, especially if I'm more interested in the topic at hand but I guess this is because I'm used to reading at night when it is deadly quiet.

I definitely have to have a quiet place--especially with no TV! That really bothers me when I'm reading! :)

I can read in any environment. In fact people have to say my name several times to get my attention while I am reading. I block everything out.

I can read anywhere, but I'd prefer it if it was more quiet around me. I don't get distracted.

I cannot read in silence because I can never find true silence. There's always some small noise going on - a creak as someone upstairs moves, the ticking of a clock, a lawnmower running - and so I end up focusing on the annoyance instead of my book. Therefore, I always have some sort of music (instrumental only) or loud white-noise going. If I'm in control of the noise, it's easier to block it out.

I need quiet. I can't read when my kids are creating chaos. I need to be able to get in the zone :)
