Author Interview:

1) How old were you when you started writing?

JM: I fell in love with writing when I was nine years old. We were learning Haiku at school and while everyone else groaned and balked at writing poetry, I completely embraced it.

2) What inspired you to write Angel Star?

JM: Really the story chose me. I wasn’t planning on devoting myself to writing full time when it happened, but the plot popped into my mind late one evening when my husband was away on business. I took the idea and ran with it – started fleshing it out the next morning after letting it settle, and eight months later, I was shopping it around to agents and editors.

3) Are the characters in the books based on someone you know?

JM: No, they’re not. They’re completely figments of my overactive imagination.

4) What was the hardest part about writing Angel Star?

JM: Knowing when to stop writing! If I read my projects over and over, I’ll still find something to change long after I’ve told myself it’s complete. I always find something I want to alter or add. I could edit forever!

5) If you had to describe Angel Star in one word, what would it be?

JM: Inspiring.

6) Do you have any other projects you're currently working on?

JM: I’m finishing up the sequel to Angel Star right now. This summer I hope to start another book that’s been floating around in my head.

7) Are there any new authors that have sparked your interest?

JM: I just love Suzanne Collins now. I think she’s brilliant. I enjoy books by Carrie Ryan also.

8) What book are you currently reading?

JM: Catching Fire (Suzanne Collins)

9) Do you have anything to say to all your readers?

JM: I just want to say thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, to everyone. The enthusiasm and heartfelt welcome from you all has been overwhelming. ANGEL STAR has been added to so many tbr lists and I’ve received many emails asking for it to reach bookstores abroad. This is what it’s all about – that makes it worthwhile – knowing that my book will end up in the hands of a reader. It’s a dream that is now a reality. :)

10) Tell us something about yourself that no one knows about.

JM: Oh my goodness . . . hmmm. I really have VERY curly hair. I just straighten it to look normal.

And Milkduds. I LOVE Milkduds.

Fantastic interview with some awesome answers! I agree that Suzanne Collins is brilliant. I read Hunger Games when it first came out, before I blogged... and thought it was amazing. She presents everything so well. =)
