Monday's Question of the Day on Tuesday!

*You are welcome to use my meme - just credit me please*

Question: Did you ever read a book that hinted or spoke about stereotypes? What did you think about it?

My Answer: I recently reviewed Crossing, an original, fascinating debut by Andrew Xia Fukuda. Throughout the novel, stereotyping Asians was a repetitive issue. The main character Xing a.k.a. Kris was the second Asian in his all white school. He was a quiet, intelligent teen who kept to himself.

I noticed if a teacher was talking to him and he didn't respond, their initial reaction was, "does he speak English?" I was disgusted at how they treated him and couldn't believe that just because he was Asian they automatically thought he couldn't speak correctly.

This book had a lot more stereotypes I'd love to touch on, however I couldn't do that without ruining the story. If you want a peek at what I thought about this book, just read my review here.

I'd love to know your thoughts, so leave me a comment :)

Interesting question. To answer it, I do. Stereotyping for me is part of life and doesn't bother me. Good question though! :D

I really liked Looks by Madeleine George. It explored issues of stereotypes for both overweight and underweight girls. I think it's good to think about and challenge stereotypes, otherwise they are just passed on for no reason from one generation to the next.

I think stereotyping is something that's kind of part of everyday life, so you see it a lot in books.

P.S. you got an award at my blog (:
