Guest Post w/ Judith Graves of Under My Skin!

It's an honor to welcome Judith Graves as our guest post today! Her novel Under My Skin will be released on March 27, 2010, published by Leap Books. Check it out below and don't forget to go out and buy this amazing book!

What sparked the idea for Under My Skin (UMS)? I have always been fascinated with mythology and folklore. Years ago I started to wonder….what would happen if mythological creatures from different regions had a last stand battle over unclaimed territory? Who would win? Would humans get caught in the fray? And so the Skinned series was born. I wanted characters forced to choose sides. To have the lines between those sides very blurred. The characters conflicted. Hopefully Under My Skin does a good job of laying this foundation for the series. There are many themes to develop within the next two books, Second Skin and Skin of My Teeth. Survival. Betrayal. Temptation. Self-acceptance. Independence. The characters will be stretched to their full potential, and, hopefully, so will I as an author. I completed the first draft of Under My Skin in 2004, between working full time as an elementary school library technician and performing in a five-piece folk-rock band. I sold the manuscript in 2008. Now in 2010 UMS gets to swing a few punches at the world.

What’s UMS about? Well, it’s not your typical teen angst novel. ’Cause Eryn isn’t your typical emo kid. She’s troubled, sure, with a messed up home life. And, yeah, she used to cut herself. But not because she was depressed or wanted attention. Eryn discovered blood. Warm. Alive. For a while she gave into its pull. Cutting was a release for the beast waiting under her skin. But she has that under control; she’s reined in her wolven side. Or so she thinks. When her parents disappear and are likely dead, Eryn has to find new ways to cope with the increasing strength of her wolven half. She doesn’t have access to the drug her father had been feeding her since birth—the only thing that stifled her abilities. To top it off, all this has made her dangerously unpredictable—–even to herself. Eryn is beginning the change—but thanks to her father’s chemical manipulations—she’s doesn’t know for sure what she’s changing into. Not exactly the best time to strike up a friendship with a crew of teen hunters tracking her kind…no matter how hot their tall, dark, and dead-wrong-for-her leader, Alec Delacroix, might be.

Praise for Under My Skin:

"Under My Skin is a roller-coaster romp through a supernatural world filled with scary beasties, otherworldly magic, and characters you'll root for. Eryn is a tough but likable protagonist whose paranormal problems make a compelling story full of mystery, magic, action and romance. A fun and engaging read. I'm looking forward to the sequel."

~Rosemary Clement-Moore, award-winning author of Prom Dates from Hell, Hell Week, Highway to Hell and The Splendor Falls (Taken from LeapBooks)

"Wow, this debut by Judith is action packed! If you love paranorm, this is one you need to check out. From vampires to werewolves to witches (well there's more but I don't want to spoil it for you), there's no holding back on beasties."
