"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Island Sting by Bonnie J. Doerr
Genre: Young Adult Fiction
Release Date: January 6, 2010
Publisher: Leap Books

Summary:
Kenzie didn’t expect her first summer in the Florida Keys to be murder. Cute guys, awesome boats, endangered species, gun-toting thugs... Kenzie Ryan’s New York know-how and private girls’ academy education prove useless in the middle of an island wildlife refuge. Upon arrival in the exotic Florida Keys, she is thrown into the midst of an ecological mystery involving the endangered Florida Key deer. How can she navigate this upside down world? A world deftly maneuvered by Angelo--island native and nerve-wracking hunk. The two team up to accomplish what perplexes law enforcement, but Angelo exposes Kenzie’s insecurities, as well as her inexperience with nature and the opposite sex.Danger and disagreement follow the pair wherever they go. Enamored with Angelo and his local savvy, Kenzie hopes to secure his loyal friendship. But how can she win Angelo’s trust when what she must tell him will crush his ego?

My Thoughts: This storyline sounds action packed, look forward to it coming out!

The River by Mary Jane Beaufrand

Release Date: February 10, 2010
Publisher:
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Pages: 224

Summary:
Veronica Severance feels cut off from the world. Forced to move from the city to rural Oregon with her parents, she is haunted by loneliness and by the chilling sounds of the Santiam, the river that runs through her backyard. Through the fog of isolation, Ronnie finds herself becoming close with Karen, a young girl who she babysits. But when she discovers Karen's body on the banks of the Santiam, the victim of a supposed accident, Ronnie feels compelled to uncover the truth. As she becomes increasingly obsessed with solving Karen's death, Ronnie is led deeper and deeper into the woods surrounding the river and to the dark secret hidden within its midst. The River is a darkly atmospheric story of murder, isolation, obsession and dark secrets that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

My Thoughts: Very mysterious and I like the cover too!

You gave me quite a thrill! Seeing Island Sting on your site made my month. I've been told reading it's a bit like a rollicking summer vacation in the Florida Keys. Thank you for featuring Island Sting.
