My First Broadway Experience: Wicked

Last Saturday, my husband and I, went to see Wicked on Broadway. Since I am a New Yorker, it's a must to see a broadway show, I don't know why it took me this long! From first sight, I fell in love with the acting, music and artistic quality behind the whole spectacle. I love Wizard of Oz, so I knew this untold story would be amazingly creative.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that my husband actually loved it just as much as me. He's the type that first thought it would be too girly. But, luckily he fell in love with the story too. The concept is so amazing that it's not only for girls, but boys too. It's truly a fun show that I recommend you all see if you're in New York.

I know some of you will be at BEA this year, I urge you to see a broadway show. It's an experience like no other, the fun you'll have throughout the musical will last you a lifetime.

The 'green' witch played by Jackie Burns, blew me away! Her singing ability was so emotionally moving, that I found myself getting goosebumps throughout her numbers.

As for the actress who played Glinda, she was so entertaining and funny. The chemistry between the two was undeniably infectious. I actually found a clip on YouTube of one of my favorite songs, Defying Gravity.

Check it out below:

I simply cannot wait to see another broadway show. Does anyone have any thoughts on which one I should see next?

I love Wicked! I saw the touring show a couple of years ago and have been listening to the soundtrack since high school. Have you read the book yet? If it was me I would go see either Phantom of the Opera or Marry Poppins.

I saw this one a few weeks back on a tour in my town. Absolutely fantastic! I had no idea that the "green witch" was so gorgeous. Even with the green goop she is striking! And you are right about her singing ability... OMG.

The play was very loosely based on the book Wicked. The book was pretty deep and disturbing at times. As for what shows to go see next, if your a fan of Grease, I hear Jersey Boys is awesome.

I want to see this one too. I was brought up listening to Musicals...I loved that this one was based on a book.

I'm obsessed with Wicked. I've seen it twice now, on the national tour, not in NYC, though. The music is amazing. You should get the CD! I know all the songs.

Wicked is pretty good. You should totally go see Lion King, it's AMAZING. Also, the Book of Mormon is funny if you're not easily offended (it really does make fun of everybody) Anything Goes is still open and it's fantastic except it was Sutton Foster's night off when I saw it. Memphis is another really fun one, great dancing. I saw How to Succeed last time I was in NY and it was absolutely brilliant but I think Nick Jonas replaiced Daniel Radcliff so... eh. Billy Elliot consistantly makes me cry and I think it's still open in NY. Also, there are revivals of Godspell, JCS, and Evita either open now or opening soon that are supposed to be spectacular.

I love musicals.

I'm so very jealous that you saw Jackie Burns. I love her Elphaba! (I live two hours away from NY and see shows all the time; I'm also Wicked obsessed. Hehe.)

Glad you loved it!

SOOOO jealous! I fell in love with the Wicked soundtrack when it first landed on the shelves and perhaps stalked all the photos of the production, but have yet to see the musical on stage! One of these days...

Elphaba's songs are goosebumply :) I am glad your husband enjoyed the experience because sometimes the men get so resistant when you ask them to come with you ;)

I LOVE Wicked! I was lucky enough to see it 12 times here in San Fran. Libby was our standby Glinda. I wish you had gotten to see Etai as Boq, he is FANTASTIC! But he's taking a break for a few months. A lot of the SF cast is now on Broadway lol. I also saw it twice in Orlando and Jackie was Elphaba both times. She's good! My favorite Elphie is Eden Espinosa and Vicki Noon :)

Yay, that's great! I love musicals. I would love to see Wicked in NYC but I did just see it in Cincy, and it was amazing. i got goosebumps during Defying Gravity.

I've seen two plays on actual Broadway, and that was RENT and West Side Story. The latter is the only one still there, so i'd recommend that.

I love Spring Awakening though. Is that still on Broadway? You gotta see it!
