Summary: Where do you go when nowhere is safe? Sixteen years after a deadly virus wiped out most of Earth’s population, the world is a perilous place. Eighteen-year-old Eve has never been beyond the heavily guarded perimeter of her school, where she and two hundred other orphaned girls have been promised a future as the teachers and artists of the New America. But the night before graduation, Eve learns the shocking truth about her school’s real purpose—and the horrifying fate that awaits her. Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Arden, her former rival from school, and Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust . . . and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life. In this epic new series, Anna Carey imagines a future that is both beautiful and terrifying. Readers will revel in Eve’s timeless story of forbidden love and extraordinary adventure.

My Review: This year, dystopian reads are blowing my mind! I just can't seem to put them down. Luckily, the streak is still going on strong with the next release on my list Eve. The first installment in this thrilling trilogy didn't disappoint. With a driven protagonist, to a swift paced plot, Carey formulated a hooking start. Eve was first introduced in a school, with orphaned girls just like herself, who were brought up with the illusion that they would one day have bright futures. On top of that, they were taught that men were these animalistic heathens that would ruin their existence. Imagine that? A world without men, definitely stress-free (no offense gentlemen) but, oh so boring! Thanks to her one time rival Arden, Eve woke up to what really awaited her on the other side of school. After her realization, she decided to escape into the unknown where all the action took place.

Eve's decision to jump into an area that was supposedly dangerous was very brave. With no knowledge or any supplies, she took her fate into her own hands. I admire her courage and non-stop fighting attitude. Along the way, I got the chance to see Arden more in depth, and she turned out to be a grand sidekick to Eve. At first, her tough exterior clouded her likability, but she slowly unraveled her true colors.

Moving on, besides Eve and Arden and all the fascinating secondary characters, one boy stole my heart and that was Caleb. Whatever Eve was brainwashed with about boys went out the window, the moment she met him. Caleb was kind-hearted, intellectual and delectably attractive, everything you'd want in a perfect guy. Even through their ups and downs of survival, their bond was special. I expect to see many more wonderful moments between the two. Especially since the ending leads me to believe that the sequel will be filled with more heart-pumping scenes. All in all, I look forward to continuing this series, Anna proved to be a talented writer with the gift of writing attention grabbing chapters.

My Rating: (4.5)

Author's Info:
Anna Carey is the author of the forthcoming EVE trilogy, which releases October 4th, 2011. She grew up on Long Island, the daughter of a special education teacher and an astronomer. Early on she talked of being a painter, district attorney, flutist, physical therapist, or graphic designer, but eventually pursued writing—the one thing that allowed her to be all of the above. She studied Literature and Creative Writing at NYU, and took part in her fair share of snowball fights in Washington Square Park. After college, she worked as an editor in children’s publishing before getting a Masters in Fiction from Brooklyn College. She now lives in Los Angeles, where the apartments are bigger and the weather is sunnier, but she still misses New York.

I had a hard time warming up to Eve, even though I knew she was a product of her upbringing. Still, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with her and Arden next. Glad you liked it!

I wasn't really impressed with EVE. I like the world and I like the premise but Eve really ruined it for me partway through the book. She was just so selfish and clueless and it had dire consequences.

I do agree that Anna is a great writer though. :)

Great review! I have been DYING to read this book. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm glad you liked it. I've heard great things around the blogosphere about this book.

I have read the first book in her MG series Sloane Sisters, but haven't read anything else by her.

Wow! I LOVE this book! I love the characters, I love the plot, I love, love, love. And I love the love story. I read. A lot. Like, more than any one person should, probably. And though I enjoy most of what I read, everything after a while starts to kind of blend together. Just like, yeah, I enjoyed it, okay, pick up next book.
