How do you beat the reading slump?
(Question Credit: Julie from My 5 Monkeys)
My Response: Great question Julie! We all go through a reading slump once in a while. What I like to do is take a break from reading, even for a week sometimes. It helps me miss it and that's when I get this book high to read as much books as I can. Unfortunately sometimes certain books cause these slumps, which could sometimes shift my mood. My best advice is to put it down and move on. Maybe when I am in a better mood one day, I'll go back to it.
What are your bookish thoughts?

I completely agree with you. Sometimes it is best to put down the book for a while instead of forcing yourself through it. You'll be reading again in no time :)
Agreed...Sometimes when you put the book in question down, you become more interested in where it ended up...I'll find myself standing in line at the store wondering what happened to the characters...and then I realize that my head's back in the game lol...
On the same note...usually it is a genre that causes a lethargy of reading for me...if that's the case then I just switch up the genre and i feel refreshed and fabulous again :)
I like to re-read old favorites when I have a reading slump, like Harry Potter. Or I switch up genres, like if I can't stand to look at another dystopia, I will read contemp. Or if I'm sick of teenagers, I'll read an adult book.
Awesome 'Books for thought' ha ha. Love the phrase!
I usually try not to worry about it and watch some guiltless tv for awhile. And if that doesn't work, I try a reread.
I'm currently in a book slump. I usually wait for a book I've been longing to read. Like right now, I'll wait for Bloodlines by Richelle Mead and that'll probably get me out of my slump and back into reading. There's never a shortage of books I'm waiting for so it's always a matter of a week or two. I find I get into a slump after a really amazing book that I feel like anything I read next can't possibly top.
Yep, that's exactly how I handle it. If it's a book's fault, I just decide it's a DNF, and it's time to be moving on. If it's because I just am burnt out on reading, I'll take a few days off. Spend them with my kids, play games, hang out with the hubby. Usually it only takes a couple of days for me to get back into the swing of reading.
I'm actually going though a book slump right now so what I'm doing is bingeing on comics and one book then taking a big long break and catching up on art and stuff that way I have my reviews for the next month done and I can take a break with out feeling guilty
I've never actually been in a reading slump, I absolutely love to read and a couple of years ago I never would've even picked up a book so it's weird being book-obsessed now. But I've never been in a book slump but I'd still probably agree with you. Too much of a good thing, is a bad thing. Put the books down and go for the video games like most people lol and once you miss the books, get back to it!
It is rare for me! But recently, I have had some major surgery and about all I can do besides take pills is read, read, read. Going to see if there is an old movie to enjoy this morning. My eyes are weary!!
Good discussion! I ususally switch genres, as I tend to get in reading ruts and burn out, so wind up in a slump. If switching from YA to thrillers to urban fantasy doesn't work, then I take a few days off. Sooner or later, I'll get the itch to read again and come out of my slump!
I usually go out and buy more books, LOL! Nothing gets me in the reading mood more than lots of great books to choose from. :D
