Summary: Luis Fuentes is a good boy who doesn’t live with the angst that his big brothers, Alex and Carlos, have always lived with. Luis is smart, funny, and has big dreams of becoming an astronaut. But when he falls for the wrong girl, Luis enters a dark world he’s never known, and just when he thinks he’s got life all figured out, learns some disturbing news about his family that destroys his positive outlook on life. Will that Fuentes bad boy streak come out with a vengeance and lure Luis to live on the edge like his new girlfriend and his own father? Continuing all the steamy romance of the first two books, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Simone Elkeles gives fans one more satisfying taste of the irresistible Fuentes boys.

My Review: Simone Elkeles has been one of my favorite authors ever since I fell in love with the first book in the series, Perfect Chemistry. Throughout the trilogy, I've experienced smoldering boys, action packed drama and consistent, passionate romances. The Fuentes brothers are nothing like the bad boys I've read in YA. They are fearless, street smart and very much into family and there Hispanic culture. In the first installment, Perfect Chemistry readers went through Alex and Brittany's relationship, while the rest of the books focused on his brothers. In Chain Reaction, the goody-goody out of the brothers, Luis, takes a turn off the right path to a deadly point I didn't expect. The whole time I wanted to slap Luis for giving in to his bad streak and leaving himself vulnerable enough to ruin everything he accomplished.

Besides the negativity surrounding his choices, Luis meets Nikki, whose feisty attitude brought excitement to his life. Nikki's heartache filled past unfortunately made numerous appearances in her blooming relationship with Luis. At times, it was a bit too much, but also understandable considering the circumstances. Moving on, my favorite aspect of the novel was the development between all the three couples in this continuation. It gave me a chance to appreciate how each character grew up and how they got through their hardships. All in all, I will sadly miss this series because Simone not only brought the fire, but also did a phenomenal job throwing in mature scenes. I love when a YA book pushes boundaries without offending people. I have faith that Simone will deliver more amazing books; I just need to control my anticipation!

My Rating: (4.5)

I just finished #2 in the series and didn't think it was as good as Perfect Chemistry. I'm really looking forward to Chain Reaction, though!
