Summary: Amber’s life is spinning out of control. All she wants is to turn up the volume on her iPod until all of the demands of family and friends fade away. So she sneaks off to the beach to spend a day by herself. Then Amber meets Cade. Their attraction is instant, and Amber can tell he’s also looking for an escape. Together they decide to share a perfect day: no pasts, no fears, no regrets. The more time that Amber spends with Cade, the more she’s drawn to him. And the more she’s troubled by his darkness. Because Cade’s not just living in the now—he’s living each moment like it’s his last.

My Review: I've been a fan of Lisa's writing ever since I read I Heart You, You Haunt Me, so when The Day Before was announced, I was really excited. I've never been a fan of verse styled novels, however Lisa changed that for me a long time ago. The melodic prose was consistent and beautifully written. Amber's character was perfectly molded into someone I could see myself hanging out with. The emotional atmosphere surrounding all the ups and downs in her life was easily detected. I respected her ability to remain composed and to dig into her strength to not only keep herself afloat, but her family as well. All individuals need a break once in a while, so when Amber escaped for a day of relaxation, I saw nothing wrong with her actions.

Along the way, she bumped into Cade, the mystery behind his persona was quite interesting. Half of the time I couldn't tell if he was genuine or bad energy. Even though I was skeptical about the fast attachment between the two, the chemistry was definitely there. Lisa's overall depiction of two strangers coming together on a day where they both need to run free was spot on. The baggage from both parties were so strong, that the letting go factor flowed off the pages. Even though the story line was simplistic, the message was evident with a fast-paced tone from start to finish. I look forward to reading more YA novels from Lisa, she always brings a refreshing and precise way of poetic writing.
