Blogger Fame Interview: The gang from Splash of our Worlds!

Blogger Fame is a meme that features a blogger once a week. I currently have a lot of entries, once it clears up, I'll add the link to join again.

Today's celebrities are . . .

The gang from Splash of our Worlds!

*Nina prefers to be a secret!*

Names: Yiota/ Nina / Johnny / Athanasia
Ages: 20 all of us
Locations: Athens, Greece
Twitters: @SplashOOWorlds || @Little_Y || @JohnnyTheWolf || @theWebnDesign

1) What inspired you all to start your blog, Splash of our Words?

Yiota: Books, movies, music, games, etc were always big part of my life. I spent hours on searching blogs and sites about them. So one day, i was checking out all those amazing book blogs out there and i was "hey man! i can do that too! i wanna share my stuff!it's fun!". And that was it! Few hours later i had already start "building". I just had to find more people and make the best out of it!

2) What's the meaning behind your blog title?

Yiota: The actual name i found was "Into the Old World" but it wasn't free for use. I was searching for about half an hour something that has to do with our world. I was really mad that my first try wasn't a success. So as i was searching for something cool, i came through pics from sea...don't ask how that happened, i don't remember..and tadah! "Splash Of Our Worlds"

3) What is the best and worst part about blogging?

Yiota: I love reading comments and see that someone noticed my review! It makes me so happy and want to write more and more! Worst: When i see the reviews have hundreds of views and 3-4 comments. Why do you people do that? It annoys me! :p

Johnny: Best: Funny comments - Worst: When you are not in the mood and HAVE to write a post

Athanasia: I am not a blogger a long time and for me blogging is fun, so the best part is that I can say my opinion about books, movies, tv series etc and also read about all those things that I find interesting, not from people that are trying to promote them, but an honest personal opinion. On the other hand, the worst thing is when people use blogs to be mean anonymously..

Nina: The best part is the comments. I always like when I see comments under my reviews, even if they are from my fellow-bloggers. The worst….There isn’t any.

4) Which is your favorite genre to review?

Yiota: Fantasy FTW!

Johnny: Games, I find it funny because I do in my own special way. I stopped doing it though when I saw they were hitting rock bottom and other posts could fill the gap.

Athanasia: My favorite genre for reviews is movies! I prefer movies to books because personally I do not thing that I am that qualified to review a book properly.

Nina: I like to review everything, and Yiota made it clear in the beginning that all genres are acceptable, which suits me fine, because I don’t like one genre of book or movie.

5) What are your top five favorite books of all time?

Yiota: The Serpentwar Saga (4 books) and King's Bucanneer all by Raymond E.Feist

Johnny: Hard Question. I cant really pick. If i had to do a list at the moment i would say that: In possition 1-2 are the books of Guild Wars (Destiny's Edge 1st Ghosts Of Ascalon 2nd), 3rd: The Prisoner Of Askaban 4th: The first of the Bartimaeus trilogy, 5th The last of the Bartimaeus Trilogy

Athanasia: That is a hard one XD I would say..1) Harry Potter (all of them, I know they are seven, but they count as one!) 2) The Schopenhauer Cure by Yalom, Irvin 3) Che Committed Suicide by Markaris, Petros 4) Eleven Minutes by Paulo Coelho 5) The Last Black Cat by Eugene Trivizas

Nina: I like all my books, so I honestly don’t have a favourite.

6) Who is your favorite author? If you had the chance to meet them, what would you say?

Yiota: Raymond Feist is my fav one. I'm not sure what i will say...I will probably ask him things about his world.

Johnny: Cant say I have one. OH! maybe Edgar Alan Poe or Homer! yeah, those 2. ok pick Poe. I would say NEVERMORE to Poe

Athanasia: My favorite author is Paulo Coelho and if I had the chance to meet him I would ask him if what he writes is real...

Nina: Jane Austen is not my favourite, but I would love to meet her (if I could). Basically I wouldn’t say anything, she would answer my questions.

7) Do you have any quirks while you write your reviews?

Yiota: Mostly music.

Johnny: Sometimes I write when I drink tea.

Athanasia: When I write a review I have 3 or 4 tabs open, one with the summary, one with the trailer, one with photos..

Nina: I like silence, actually. Since English are not my mother language, I have to think about the syntax and the words. Every time I write I feel like I’m writing an essay. It has to be great.

8) If you could make a fictional story come alive, which would you pick and why?

Yiota: I'm going with Johnny's answer since i know exactly what he means...but i guess you want something "famous" sooo...Midkemia by Raymond Feist (what did you expect..i love the guy!)

Johnny: ^^...

Athanasia: I would pick one with animals, I do not have one in mind right now but I would love a story with talking animals to come true, it would be so interesting to talk to them XD

Nina: Harry Potter, maybe. That if I was a witch too and not just a human being.

9) Currently, which book cover(s) are you lusting over?

Johnny: None :P

Nina: The Immortal Instruments series. the 4 first books - http://www.goodreads.com/series/44457-the-mortal-instruments

10) Which type five blogs do you continually visit?

Except yours: (Thank you - xoxo)

11) If you had to give advice to a newcomer, what would you tell them about blogging?

Yiota: At first it's difficult since you will have no traffic but later will be amazing! So keep it up and no worries! Have fun and everything will be awesome!

Johnny: THE CAKE IS A LIE!

Athanasia: I think that I am still a newcomer and I have a lot to learn, so I do not have an advise to give..

Nina: Well, I’m a new in this too, so the only thing I can say is to relax and ask for advice and help (Only Yiota knows how many things I asked her).

Random Questions:

  • Approximately, how many books do you own?
Yiota: It's over a hundred for sure but never count them....
Johnny: No idea. Do encyclopedias count?
Athanasia: give or take 100
Nina: About a hundred, I think.
  • Favorite guilty pleasure?
Yiota: I enjoy doing things for free. Everyone says that I should stop doing that and they are right but I can't. Oh! And my services have to with photoshop/graphics..don't get any weird ideas.
Johnny: Sex? That is rare, no wait, tea?
Athanasia: How guilty? XD cracking the spines of my books
Nina: Ice-cream. It’s the only reason I like summer.

  • Where do you purchase your books?
Yiota: Amazong, BookDepository and Play.com
Johnny: Bookstores? Yiota?
Athanasia: Some from a bookstore and some for the internet (The Book Depository)
Nina: Bookstores. But I’m a little disappointed, because I don’t always find what I want.
  • Judge book by cover or summary?
Yiota: First impressions is cover of course. Thanks goodreads have both next to each other.
Johnny: Both
Athanasia: Well I am a cover judge and most of the times I am right, but I have missed great books too because of an ugly covers, so take a few minutes and read the summary XD
Nina: Sorry, about this, but mostly from the covers. If I don’t like the cover, I don’t read the summary. With the exception of the series or the authors I already know.
  • Favorite movie?
Yiota: No way I can pick one!
Johnny: The one with the pirate in middle earth where White Fang goes to Hogwarts to find the robot of the Jedi with Will Smith while Scot Pilgrim goes to Disney and they find Emperor Kuzko
Athanasia: Braveheart !
Nina: So many, I can’t choose.
  • What do you think about e-readers?
Yiota: I do have one. I don't enjoy reading there are much as I have the book in my hands but it's really useful.
Johnny: How can they do it? I just think it is sadistic to just read from a screen!
Nina: I don’t a problem. I have e-books, but it’s more difficult to read on your screen.
  • Describe yourself in three words?
Yiota: Funny, shy, loyal
Johnny: Awesomelly Handome/Modest
Athanasia: I can't
Nina: Open-minded, Independent, Adventurous (Is it cheat that I read them on an article about my zodiac??)
  • What five things would you bring on a deserted island??
Yiota: Knife, Toilet Paper, Book, a pack of pens, notebook
Johnny: My bow, my music, my books, my laptop and a fully recharged cell phone with points for a call (DUH!)
Athanasia: 1) my laptop 2) a book 3) sunscreen 4) my I pod 5) a knife
Nina: The pocket knife my dad gave me and the pretty necklace my mum gave me, a book and a blank notebook. And a pencil.

*Where The Blog Magic Happens*

Johnny is currently in America, far away from his room so no pic.

Yiota: My desk is full of everything but i have in mind to have close to me phones, calendars, etc. I have read all those books except some at the top right corner. Left down i have my movies and computer stuff. And there is always some chocolate and my two cute Winx around :D The huge pile of papers is from uni and some fast food catalogs from when the guys are around.

Athanasia: My dinning table is usually the place I blog. Next to the laptop is the last book i was reading. The paintings on the wall are from Barcelona and London.

Nina: My workplace is my desk/library. Unfortunately, my desk is small, so I can’t leave my laptop on all the time. The books on the right are those I already read and they stay there, because I’m a little bored to put them in place, or I have to review them and I didn’t found the time.

Thank you Yiota, Nina, Johnny, and Athanasia for this entertaining interview!
