My Top 5 YA Winter Reads! (Random Magic Reading Circle)

Winter Reading Circle: Tales for a Winter Night
Find some nice and cozy – or dark and spooky – reads perfect for wintertime, on this fun blog hop.

You are here: La Femme Readers

Hello my lovelies! Welcome to the Winter Reading Circle, part of the winter season Random Magic tour, Winterlong. Today marks the last day of the tour and I must say it was a fun ride. I want to give a special thanks to the talented, and amazingly sweet Sasha Soren. She put this whole thing together by herself and succeeded in coming up with great ideas and giveaways. For those of you who missed the tour stops, you could always refer back to this schedule.

Finally, this time around we are closing the tour by having a reading circle where I'll be naming my top five picks for a cold, Winter day. Being wrapped in a blanket with a cup of hot chocolate and a book in hand is the best remedy during this season.

My Top 5 Winter Reads:
(In No Particular Order)

1. Trapped by Michael Northrop
(Summary on GoodReads)

This cover screams Winter. The trapped feeling of snow sometimes let's us know that the freezing temperature has finally dropped. Plus, if you are actually snowed in your house, why not read a book you can relate to?
2. Need (Need, #1) by Carrie Jones
(Summary on GoodReads)

Ah pixies. There is something about these creatures that remind me of Winter. Maybe it's there cold persona? In addition, this book also takes place in a snowy town with woods that are filled with whispering pixies who are in need of your attention.
3. The Ex Games by Jennifer Echols
(Summary on GoodReads)

Snowboarding and a cute love story, need I say more?
4. Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #1) by Maggie Stiefvater
(Summary on GoodReads)

How does our body react in the cold - we shiver right? Well, this book's poetic quality and great characters moved me emotionally. Plus, the wintery feel of the temperature and woodsy description surrounding Grace's home was perfect.
5. Nevermore (Nevermore, #1) by Kelly Creagh
(Summary on GoodReads)

Books with a supernatural element tend to sooth my soul while creating a warm, fuzzy feeling in my tummy. Kelly's promising start to this series was one of my favorites this year. With an unforgettable premise and enticing writing, it formulated a pleasurable experience. I absolutely fell in love with Varen, a brooding, goth with a desirable, sexy side. We all need a smoldering character to wrap our arms around on a cold night, hopefully you'll give Varen a chance to do so.

What are your favorite top five Winter picks?

Random Magic by Sasha Soren has a magical yet quirky feel to it which would be a perfect escape from all this crazy weather. It'll spin your mind into a world of wondrous beings and eccentric characters like no other.

Check out Sasha's tour site for more info!

Summary: When absent-minded Professor Random misplaces the main character from Alice in Wonderland, young Henry Witherspoon must book-jump to fetch Alice before chaos theory kicks in and the world vanishes. Along the way he meets Winnie Flapjack, a wit-cracking doodle witch with nothing to her name but a magic feather and a plan. Such as it is. Henry and Winnie brave the Dark Queen, whatwolves, pirates, Struths, and fluttersmoths, Priscilla and Charybdis, obnoxiously cheerful vampires, Baron Samedi, a nine-dimensional cat, and one perpetually inebriated Muse to rescue Alice and save the world by tea time.

I love how the prose of Shiver feels like winter. I read the words and see silver, white, the brown of bare trees, the grayish-blue color of the sky, and the green of evergreen trees.

These all look great, but I haven't read any of them!

Oh, gosh... I'm so behind! Still haven't read Shiver and Need yet. But I've heard so good things about both of them.
