Summary: First, six mysteriously pale new students show up at Sophie McGee’s high school. Then, Sophie’s childhood nemesis James reappears, still displaying a knack for making Sophie’s blood boil. When Sophie finds out that James has a connection to the new students, she decides to investigate...never expecting her life will quickly begin to resemble a campy horror movie, complete with budding crushes and bloodthirsty villains. Perfect for fans of the Vampire Kisses and Vladmir Tod series, A. M. Robinson’s debut novel sparkles with action, intrigue, irresistible wit, and sizzling romance.

My Review: "Six mysteriously pale new students show up..." Stop! I know what you are thinking. No, Twilight has nothing to do with this story. In my opinion, Robinson's witty debut, Vampire Crush, heightened the bar for non-stereotypical vampire books. The sarcastic and playful undertone with the characters and concept, created a comfortable fluidity for the reader. Each individual shined with a diverse likability factor, even the ones who aggravated me to no end *cough* Vlad *cough*. Sophie, a journalist at heart, was a gutsy girl who connected with me from the first introduction. Her razor sharp comebacks and high mentality to deal with unexplained situations made her into a fun protagonist. Now, my favorite part of this novel was when I swooned over James, Sophie's childhood nemesis. Once he entered the picture, the mysterious vibe was very appealing. His sweet natured demeanor was endearing and created a blissful yet blossoming crush between the two.

The high school atmosphere surrounded around the unknown group of eccentric new students and a surprised yet good-looking arrival from James. From then on, Sophie's existence stepped into the twilight zone (again, not that Twilight, darn should have used a different expression.) Vlad, the head leader of the crew, was one annoying, bloodthirsty character. However, his amusing and stubborn traits were crafted for a good villain. The female vampires each brought something different to the table. From a lovestruck, free-spirit to a loyal, broken-hearted one, these girls sizzled with dramatic moments that kept me laughing. By the end of the novel, I was suddenly hit with events that left me salivating for answers. I'm not sure if there will be a second installment, however I really hope Robinson will continue her quest with Sophie and her newly found discoveries. All in all, this debut was absolutely addictive. With a page-turning story line and the right dose of unique vampires, this would make a great gift for any YA lover.

My Rating:
Author's Info:

A. M. Robinson grew up in Indiana, but now lives in New York City, where she works in the publishing industry. She graduated from Indiana University with a double major in English and Chinese, but she is obviously only using the first one. Vampire Crush is her first book.
