Summary: Most teens turn sixteen and get the license to drive, but Lil Falcon gets the license to kill demons. Orphaned as a child and raised by an eccentric grandfather, Lil is concerned with surviving high school and is unaware that she's a Guardian-a being with super powers charged with killing demons and protecting humanity. When she meets Bran, a mysterious boy with amazing abilities, his psi energy unlocks her latent powers. But Bran has a secret that can ruin their growing relationship, and the truth she discovers may destroy everything she believes in unless she finds the right balance between love and sacrifice.

My Review: Awakened, is an exquisite stepping stone into a powerful and finely written series. The concept's refreshing originality has the potential to mesmerize a reader from start to finish. Lil Falcon starts out as a normal, gypsy girl and then with the help of her grandpa and training crew she blossoms into a bad-ass guardian. In this novel, a guardian's duty is to protect humans from the iniquitous demons. So, when half-demon Bran approaches Lil, her crew of Guardians prepare for the worst. Luckily for her sake, Bran's only threat was surrounding her heart. I absolutely adored Bran. His loyalty and unconditional support provided a melodious escape in her turbulent world. During Lil's training period, I start to personify with her eccentric Cardinal Guardian members.

Sykes, a particular individual I found myself gravitating towards was a flirtatious piece of work that continually delivered smart aleck comments. I really hope to see more of Bran and Sykes in the sequel. The two swoon worthy guys were expressed in the utmost detail that I felt closer to them in the end. Of course, the girl power energy by the female characters was just as intriguing. I immensely enjoyed the first installment. If I didn't know any better, this plot deserves to be seen in bookstores. Ednah's creative value and pre-meditated organization equaled an addictive deliverance I couldn't put down. Also, in the beginning of the book, Ednah was kind enough to write a glossary to help readers keep up with all the different names of demons and guardians. I appreciated that part since my confusion was checked at the door (or should I say first few pages?) Finally, great story and characters, now please pass me the sequel! :)

My Rating: (4.5)

Author's Info:
In her own words, "I grew up reading Nancy Drew and Hardy boys mysteries, hence Stratemeyer influence, before I graduated to Mills & Boons (starting with Janet Daily's Shutter the Sky) and the rest is history. I enjoy good love stories, tingly mysteries and wondrous adventures. When I finished my college and decided to be a stay-at-home mother, I devoured books like they were going out of production, until reading just wasn't enough. So I started to write. I've written picture books, contemporary and romantic suspense, biracial/multicultural books, and finally YA fantasy. Awakened is the first book in The Guardian Legacy series. I'm working on book 2, tentatively named Betrayed. When I'm not writing, I do things with my family, five children or my darling husband of 18 years. I live in a picturesque valley in Utah, the setting for my series."
