Monday's Question of the Day!

*You are welcome to use my meme - just credit me please*

Question:
What are the key components you look for in a book?

My Answer: Books that usually catch my eye include three components: supernatural or dystopian theme, a strong-willed female protagonist and sexy bad boys. *sigh* The perfect combination. I am thrilled to see that creative, supernatural novels are surfacing each year and I am curious to see how far it goes in 2011 and 2012 (hopefully we'll be here to find out hehe.)

For female protagonists, I love to read about characters who are spunky, confident and who have the ability to crack jokes. Especially when they're making fun of the attractive, swoon-worthy boy their secretly lusting over.

Now, who doesn't like a sexy boy to drool over in YA? Sometimes they are hard to find. Unless you are Cassandra Clare, Becca Fitzpatrick or Simone Elkeles (I know more authors deserve to be named too) who have the skills to make me fall in love with their boys. I like having the chance to dream about a character, besides my fiancé and well, Edward back in the day. Yes, yes I dreamed about Edward, I'm sure you Twilight lovers did once or twice. ;) So, overall supernatural and some type of romance wins me over!

I'd love to know your thoughts, so leave me a comment :)

Oh yes! I totally agree the sexy bad boy is at the top of my list too! Great question.

For me my three are:
1. Sexy bad boy and or hot romance
2. Some supernatural element
3. A cleaver written story that makes sense.

Yes!! Love this one! Those three things are certainly a must, and the story has to get my blood pumping. I usually like some action in the beginning to get me interested. I HATE slow beginnings. :P

I definitely agree with your points! Sometimes I do get sick of a love triangle, though and wish that it wasn't such a major component of YA fiction.

Usually, I look for a love story (my favorite), a happy ending (yes, I will look), and a main character that has a lot of room to grow.

I totally agree with your point about the female protagonist! I really want to read about a girl who can crack jokes especially on their (not-so-secret)crush!

My three are:
1. Humour
2. A splash of romance
3. Substance (I like fluffy reads too, but I need to gain something from the reading experience, you know?)

Guilty - I do like me a hot male character. :D

I also like funny, strong female characters (wimpy ones just make me mad, if they are fighting for survival or a cause .... I am sold.

All good points. I really like some humor thrown in. Strong women are very important, I get rather tired of the insipid little dishrag types.

Great question!

BTW, I have an award for you at http://onebookshy.blogspot.com
