Monday's Question of the Day!

*You are welcome to use my meme - just credit me please*

Question:
When a book is made into a movie or TV show, do you read the book before watching it? Or it doesn't matter either way?
(Thanks to The Book Vixen for question idea!)

My Answer: I try to read the book before watching it come to life in a movie or TV series. But, there has been times where I am too lazy to read the book and just give in to watching the movie instead (for example: The Lovely Bones, The Notebook, Harry Potter, etc.) However, sometimes I've already read the book before they make a movie or TV series such as The Vampire Diaries and Twilight. But, I sometimes attempt to read the book in order to compare them. I just tend to fail miserable at the thought. :)

I'd love to know your thoughts, so leave me a comment :) Have a question idea? E-mail me at lafemmereaders@yahoo.com and I'll give you credit!

I usually read the book first, but it doesn't really matter for me, I've done it both ways. I try to compare the movie to the books because the books will usually win

I try and read the book first. But if I don't have time its not a train smash.

Well It really depends of what comes out first lol
I started reading 1.5 years ago, so every books released before that, I saw the movie first. But now I mostly read the books first.
I think I would prefer movie before book thought, because then the book just seems that much better, as oppose to the risks of eing disapointed with the movie.

I'm here from to CEP

I almost always read the book first. Except for the Harry Potter books, I watched the movies before I read the books. The books almost always win out over the movie adaptations. Although I have to say I LOVED The Notebook movie waaaaaay more than the book!

I answered on my site. But, basically, the gist is that it doesn't really matter. :)

I haven't seen many that appealed to me, and I don't make a point of doing one before the other. Harry Potter I only read recently, but I've been watching the movies for a while. Twilight I read and watched pretty much simultaneously. Hunger Games, Shiver, and Beautiful Darkness, all of which have been optioned, I've read. Beastly I want to see and read, preferably not in that order.
One show I watch is Legend of the Seeker, but I've no real interest in the Sword of Truth books.

I pretty much always read the book/s before seeing the movie. I read Harry Potter quite early on. I've read Hunger Games, City of Ember and Uglies. I'm just about to read Shiver. Movies very rarely live up to the expectations one has of the book. People imagine things differently to one another. One great book-to-movie adaptation is Lord of The Rings.

I agree with your answer I usually try to read the book if I hear about a movie that's coming out. Sometimes I'm just too lazy though. Although if I watch a movie and really enjoy it then I try to at least read the book afterward.

98% of the time I try to read the book first-just because there are so many little details a movie will leave out-it always fills in the holes for me.
For instance The Time Traveler's Wife made alot more sense to me because I had read the book while my sister hadn't and had a lot of annoying questions. LOL

If I think it's a book I'll really like than I try to read it first. If it's not really my genre of book than I'll just watch the movie.

If I haven't read the book before I hear of the movie/TV, I don't try to get the reading done before watching the show. However, if the movie/TV show looks like it'd be a good read or it intrigued me to the point I wonder about the book, I will try to purchase the book even if I don't get around to reading it. For instance, I purchased The Time Traveler's Wife after watching the movie, the Notebook after the hype though I've not seen the movie, and am thinking about purchasing Repossession Mambo (Repo Men) because the trailer looked interesting. But I'll probably watch Repo Men long before I ever read the book, if I do.

Hey Eleni!

Here from CEP =)

I'm really retarded when it comes to the whole books-movies sort of thing. I do try to read the book of a movie BEFORE I watch the movie because once I've watched a movie of a book, then I can't read the book...that's what happened for the first three Harry Potter books! GASP =) But the rest of the series, I read because I didn't watch the movies =)))

I used to think reading the book first was mandatory, but more recently, I've decided to switch that. If I read the book first, I'm almost always disappointed by the movie, but if I watch the movie first, and love it, I'm then more impressed by the book. I still have a respect for the movie, since I enjoyed it, but the book still has that air of mystery because (often) soo much is left out or changed in the movie.

If a book is being made into a movie then I HAVE to read the book first. That way there will be no surpirses for me at the movie. Like if its scary I'll know when to perpare myself to not jump or if its sad I know when to hide my face so no one sees me cry. No sees me when I read a book excpet my husband who sees all those things no matter what.

For a tv show I usally never read the books. I figure if its being made into a tv show then it a long series in which I most likely have no time to read. So sad but true.

For me, it depends. On the book and the circumstances.

The Notebook - Hadn't known there was a book and hadn't heard of Nicholas Sparks yet. The movie was awesome and when I found out that it was based on a novel, I rushed out to get it. Nicholas Sparks is now one of my favorite authors.

The Time Traveler's Wife - I really had wanted to read the book first but I didn't get the chance. I wanted to see the movie on the big screen. I'm glad it worked out that way. It was much easier following the book and unique time line being that I had watched the movie first.

Twilight series - I read the books before I saw the movies. I didn't feel like I was missing out by doing it this way.
