Monday's Question of the Day!

*You are welcome to use my meme - just credit me please*

Question: Which type of YA genre do you prefer, dark and edgy or fun and light-hearted?

My Answer: I like both. However, I rather read dark and edgy novels. In my opinion, they're more thought-provoking and deep. I love when a book challenges my mind and leaves me with a lingering message or life long lesson. Fun and light-hearted books are great for days where my brain wants to rest. I'm the type of person that is ALWAYS thinking about something so I enjoy letting go once in awhile.

I'd love to know your answers, so leave me a comment :)

i love to read dark and edgy books. I agree with you. They are more thought-provoking and I tend to remember them for a long time. I tend to give these novels higher ratings because they are more deep.

Fun Light-hearted books are good for a break from the edgy. I tend to remember the books, but not the plot though. To me, light fun reads tend to blend together. Unless the characters are unique in some way.

I tend to like YA books that talk about important and REAL topics while delivering deep and insightful messages to its main readers, which are the teens. Sometimes, when the book can be readable by a teen's parent, I'm more up for it. It IS more thought-provoking this way, and it does stick with me for a long time. Like I said, it is important to be aware of such issues and topics when we are teenagers and are on the verge of "discoveries."

Light-hearted books don't hurt though, as they are simply fun and entertaining to read. Great question! :)

I love them both, but it just depends where my mind is at when I'm reading. I'm such a mood reader, haha.

Fun and lighthearted for me-I got into YA through Meg Cabot and have largely continued that way. Not that I don't read dark books but I'm a sucker for a pink cover which tends to mean fun!

I like both depending on my mood but my favorites are urban fantasy that are dark but have a lot of humor.
