Question: What debut author(s) blew you away with their writing?
My Answer: Recently, debut authors are hitting us with some good stuff! The author that blew me away was Jennifer Brown. She wrote the YA novel, Hate List which I thought was written beautifully. It truly touched me and not a lot of books have that effect on me. Now, their were also debut authors that I liked such as Rosalind Wiseman, Becca Fitzpatrick, Cayla Kluver and Kay Cassidy. I'm sure, more will be added to my list once I get to my TBR pile!

Brigid Pasulka is one that absolutely blew me away last year. Her book ended up as my favorite book of 2009. It's partly a story set in WWII era Poland as well as modern day Poland and spans a beautiful love story.
I have not read, Hate List. But I loved Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush. Another debut author that blew me away is Lauren Kate.
Francisco X. Stork blew me away with Marcelo in the Real World. Beautiful book about a boy with Asperger's who is thrown into the real world of a law firm. It turns into a legal thriller and seeing events unfold through the eyes of Marcelo is really interesting and new. He sees music in his head in a way that's hard to describe and he's very innocent. There are some really interesting discussions of religion as well.
Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich also did a fantastic job with 8th Grade Superzero. She has created a three dimensional cast of lovable, flawed characters who will make you laugh, cry and give you hope for the future of MG
I have also loved the Hate List! One of the greatest books I read this year...

Hard question, hm... I really loved Hate List too and BC. I think those were my favorites of 2009, though there are definitely going to be a lot more in 2010!
And, as a side note, this is pretty similar to The Weekly Debate on my blog, since I always post it on Monday and such. Did you start this meme before me? Because I would hate to steal your idea! :)
Hehe, sure, it's a deal. I'll check back and answer your questions every Monday. ;)
I have the Hate List on my TBR pile. If I think back to 2009 I think that Courtney Summers' Cracked up to Be was writing that I loved. It might be a little old, but I read it in Dec. I am really excited for Some Girls Are. :]
Ash, Hush Hush, and Beautiful Creatures. And now I really want to read Flash Burnout to see why it won the award
Of all the books I have read so far...not one has blown me away. Last year Stephanie Plum did and that was all.

I read quite a bit from debut authors last year, but one of the books that completely blew me away was BEAUTIFUL CREATURES. It was so refreshing to read a book from a male POV (most of the books I read have girl POVs). The characters and the world are so lush and evocative... just amazing.
(And wow, thank you so much for mentioning me with such a terrific group of authors!)
I thought Hush Hush and Beautiful Creatures were both wonderful.
