Summary: Weston Wilson is not immortal and he is of this world. But, aging is not part of his existence, and eighteen-year-old Sophie Slone is determined to find out why. In doing so, she could also uncover something about her own life expectancy that she may not want to know. Suddenly, immortality will mean everything and nothing all at the same time. Intensely fascinating and rich with determination, The Pace brings together romance, mystery, and suspense in a compelling bond that is sure to have readers asking for more.
My Review: The Pace is a well-written, refreshing and suspenseful YA novel. I didn't know what to expect at first but I was quickly surprised. Shelena's writing is fast-paced but also very detailed. I enjoyed getting to know Sophie, she was an interesting character. I liked seeing her transformation from being a loner into a more approachable person. At first, I wasn't too sure about Weston's character, he was so mysterious to me that it gave him this dangerous image. But, after I started to get to know him I was smitten by his romantic and caring gestures. This book was such a page turner that I couldn't put it down unless all my questions were answered. The ending was exciting and I can't wait to continue this story with Book Two, The Broken Lake, which comes out August 19, 2010.
My Rating: 4.7 out of 5
Author's Info:
Shelena Shorts graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Master's degree in Education. Her passion for igniting a spark in teens led her to teach American literature for six years in traditional and online classrooms. When she's not interacting with teens in all possible realms, she's writing novels geared toward the wants of young adults and the "young at heart." She also works with the innovative online virtual school, K12, and lives in Virginia with her husband and three young children.
