Summary: Sentenced to life in prison when he executes the men who murdered his wife, Kane Silver is singled out by the warden for his fighting ability. Along with inmates Valentino Lopez and Si’Ling Lee, Kane is drafted into service and forced to fight for money in high-stakes tournaments. But when the three friends escape during a New Year’s Eve match in Lake Tahoe—saving the warden’s life in the process—their situation becomes more complicated. Their status undetermined, they vanish underground and sign on to help a young woman whose parents are being held by an Argentinean drug kingpin. Follow Kane and his friends as they compete and grow closer while rediscovering what it means to be free. From Lake Tahoe and the western United States to Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, and Thailand, Life After 187 takes readers on an exhilarating ride filled with big money, intense action, justice, and the pursuit of honor.

My Review: Life After 187 is literally an action packed movie with words. At first, I was having a hard time connecting with the story and characters. But once I started reading further, everything changed. I simply couldn't get enough of this roller coaster adventure! The story opens up with Kane and his father. Kane was a military brat that was brought up to be respectful and tough. He then got married to the love of his life but unfortunately was cut short due to her murder. I was emotionally touched when this occurred because you could feel Kane's pain and revenge. His actions after her murder resulted in him being locked up in prison. The part that took place in prison was shocking. It's crazy how the Warden asked Kane and two other inmates to become fighters for his pleasure in betting. I enjoyed the three main characters and I grew to be attached to their brotherhood. But for the negative side, I've heard the story of a husband seeking revenge for his wife and landing in a prison with a warden who seeks entertainment too many times. If you've seen the movie Death Race, it's eerily similar. However, the twist that makes it refreshing is when the three inmates escape which leads us through a worldly journey. Overall, if you're looking for a fun, thrill seeking novel, then I recommended this book!
My Rating: 4.0 out of 5

Basically the story is as the title states...about pride (Mr. Darcy's...and other's) and prejudice (Elizabeth's). Elizabeth being slighted by Mr. Darcy on first acquaintance is prejudiced against him; Elizabeth being flattered on first acquaintance by Mr. Wickham is predisposed in his favor. Her emotional response to flattery (not cool logic) is responsible for this "rating" of each man. In the novel, you see through her eyes how wrong first impressions often are. That's my "nutshell" summary.
