Secret Society by Tom Dolby [Young Adult]
Publisher: HaperCollins/Katherine Tegen Books
Release Date: September 29, 2009

Summary: Secrets, secrets are no fun. Secrets, secrets hurt someone. . . . An eccentric new girl. A brooding socialite. The scion of one of New York's wealthiest families. A promising filmmaker. As students at the exclusive Chadwick School, Phoebe, Lauren, Nick, and Patch already live in a world most teenagers only dream about. They didn't ask to be Society members. But when three of them receive a mysterious text message promising success and fame beyond belief, they say yes to everything—even to the harrowing initiation ceremony in a gritty warehouse downtown and to the ankh-shaped tattoo they're forced to get on the nape of their necks. Once they're part of the Society, things begin falling into place for them. Week after week, their ambitions are fulfilled. It's all perfect—until a body is found in Central Park with no distinguishing marks except for an ankh-shaped tattoo. Tom Dolby makes his teen fiction debut with this riveting novel about a dangerous society so secret that once you get in, you can never get out.
My Review: Tom Dolby's young adult debut, was good but not great. When I first read the summary and was captured by the cover, I was super excited to read this novel. I loved the concept of a Secret Society that initiated their members by giving them an Egyptian hieroglyphic ankh-shaped tattoo which symbolized "eternal life." The secret society seemed amazing since their wildest dreams would come true once they joined, but their is always a price to pay, it's never that easy. Of course I loved that it took place in New York and the book was a fast read, it only took me a day to finish. But, on the negative side, I was sometimes bored when I read it, I just kept thinking "okay get to revealing "the secret" part already." Maybe I was just too anxious and confused it with boredom, eh who knows? I don't know why but I feel like most novels today are ending their books with cliffhangers. So, I have to sit and wonder, will there be a sequel? Most likely yes, since his site says series. Overall, an interesting read but I wouldn't put it on my top five favorite books.
My Rating: 4.4 out of 5

That book sounds really great. Is it pretty girly too? Or is it mainly just thriller?

Thanks for the honest review. I still love the sound of this book though. The blurb is a hooker.
