Summary: Who will be tempted by darkness? Who will fall in love, and who will find their relationship torn apart? And who will betray everything they ever believed in? Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. In the heart-pounding fourth installment of the Mortal Instruments series, the stakes are higher than ever.

My Review: Okay, whoever is close to me knows I am a die hard Cassandra Clare fan. She could write about Jace taking a poop on the toilet and I'll think it's a masterpiece. Too much info? Probably. Anywho, the moment I heard The Mortal Instrument series was coming back with more books, I was elated beyond belief. Now, once I caressed it a little and enjoyed the new book smell, I dived right into the dark, magical world of the shadowhunters and downworlders. I must say, Cassandra has a unique way of making my state of New York sound sexy. It makes me want to strap on a hot outfit and lurk through the city for villains. Ha, like that's ever going to happen, I'll just live through Clary and Isabelle's kick-ass attitudes. Speaking of Clary, I sure missed her character. I love reading her progression through the series, it was refreshing to see her shadowhunter training.

As for her trainer and boyfriend, Jace...rar...need I say more? Every time he is around, I get goosebumps. He is still his cocky, bi-polar self but, with a hint of sensitivity this time around. My only annoyance was when Jace would go back and forth with Clary. I mean three books later I figured maybe he would finally relax knowing he was in a committed relationship. However, it wouldn't be Jace if I didn't experience some type of internal war. Plus, the added make out sessions were pretty steamy though. :) Another aspect of the book I enjoyed was the spotlight on Simon. I always wondered why we never truly got deep down into his vampire psyche. It gave me a chance to better understand him as an individual and the daily fight within himself. All in all, the plot surrounding the killings of shadowhunters and downworlders was pretty interesting. It was a little slow moving at first but, nonetheless amazing. I can't wait for the next installment, I'm sure my Mortal Instruments high will last until next year!

I enjoy Clare's writing and love the world and characters she created in her first trilogy. This start to a second trilogy didn't grab me the way those books did. It often felt more like a setup for a story to be found in books 5 and 6 rather than a story unto itself.
