Summary: A 20-Year Race Through Time... In the near future, one man holds the key to our past. Chester Fuze lived a solitary life until he flung himself twenty years back in time. For years, he had loved movie star Rhonda Romero through television screens, movie theaters, and magazine covers. It wasn't until she had fallen so far as to sell her face for a cosmetic transplant that he knew he had to travel back and save her before her life headed down such a tragic and destructive path. Lunging backward through two decades in a flash, Chester races across country and enters the world of seedy gambling and the bizarre jungle of behind-the-scenes Hollywood, while being hunted down by a deranged bookie, an escaped convict, and even his past self, all of whom are determined to kill him. He had put aside the secret to time travel, daring not risk the world to test his theory. It had placed him in a straight jacket for several years of his life. It had estranged his own mother from him. He had let it go for his own sanity. Now, he'll pick it back up to save Rhonda. God help us all.

Book Review:
Beastly by Alex Flinn Genre: Young Adult Fiction Release Date: Available Now Publisher: HarperTeen Pages: 320 Received From: Store Bought
Summary: I am a beast. A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright—a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster. You think I'm talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It's no deformity, no disease. And I'll stay this way forever—ruined—unless I can break the spell. Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I'll tell you. I'll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and the perfect life. And then, I'll tell you how I became perfectly . . . beastly.
My Review:Beastly was a great modern telling of Beauty and the Beast. Kyle Kingsbury was the popular, good looking guy in high school that every girl swooned over. However, looks was the only thing going for him. His personality was truly ugly; he was selfish and cruel to others. One day in English class Kyle crosses someone that he would regret later. Kendra, the goth looking girl who was humiliated by Kyle at a school dance ended up being a witch. She cast a spell on Kyle that would last forever unless he found a girl to love him in his beastly form. Kendra gave him a chance to find a girl in two years, if not Kyle would never be the same again. Kyle eventually found a girl to communicate with that learns to care for his interior instead of his exterior. But does she fall in love with him? Hm, you need to read the book to find out! hehe. Honestly, I enjoyed the modern twist on one of my favorite stories. Alex Flinn's writing was easy to get into and the suspense kept me reading till the end. I liked the characters especially Kyle, in his beast form and Lindy, the girl he fell in love with. Lindy was a character that loved reading so I related with her on that basis. Overall, a very cute read and I recommend it to readers who love twists on their favorite childhood stories. Alex Flinn also came out with another book, A Kiss in Time which is a humorous retelling of Sleeping Beauty, so I'm definitely going to check that one out too!
After watching the movie trailer that's coming out June 2010, I'm not sure they cast the characters correctly. I think Kyle was cast perfectly because he is a good looking blonde, blue eyed guy. But for the character of Lindy, hell no! She's suppose to be an average looking red-haired girl. Um, Vanessa Hudgens to me is very pretty and definitely not average, but eh whatever I guess they want to attract Vanessa fans to watch the film. I don't care for her as an actress, but I'm curious to see how she'll embody the role. Also when Kyle turns into a beast, well they don't actually make him into a hairy, beast like creature, look at the pictures below to see what I mean! :)
This is how the book portrays his beast like form, they stuck to the actual Beauty and the Beast.
This is the "beast" form in the movie - big difference right? I hate when movies change a lot from the book, eh oh well!
Check out the movie trailer here. My Rating: 4.8 out of 5 Author's Info:
Alex Flinn loves fairy tales and is also the author of a modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast titled Beastly, which was named a VOYA Editor's Choice for 2007, a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age for 2008, and a 2008 ALA Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers. Her other books include Breathing Underwater, an ALA Top 10 Best Book for Young Adults, Breaking Point, Nothing to Lose, Fade to Black, and Diva. She lives in Miami with her husband, two kids, a cat, and a dog.
Life After 187 by Wade J. Halverson Genre: Fiction Release Date: Available Now Publisher: Xlibris Corporation Pages: 238 Received From: Author
Summary: Sentenced to life in prison when he executes the men who murdered his wife, Kane Silver is singled out by the warden for his fighting ability. Along with inmates Valentino Lopez and Si’Ling Lee, Kane is drafted into service and forced to fight for money in high-stakes tournaments. But when the three friends escape during a New Year’s Eve match in Lake Tahoe—saving the warden’s life in the process—their situation becomes more complicated. Their status undetermined, they vanish underground and sign on to help a young woman whose parents are being held by an Argentinean drug kingpin. Follow Kane and his friends as they compete and grow closer while rediscovering what it means to be free. From Lake Tahoe and the western United States to Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, and Thailand, Life After 187takes readers on an exhilarating ride filled with big money, intense action, justice, and the pursuit of honor.
My Review: Life After 187 is literally an action packed movie with words. At first, I was having a hard time connecting with the story and characters. But once I started reading further, everything changed. I simply couldn't get enough of this roller coaster adventure! The story opens up with Kane and his father. Kane was a military brat that was brought up to be respectful and tough. He then got married to the love of his life but unfortunately was cut short due to her murder. I was emotionally touched when this occurred because you could feel Kane's pain and revenge. His actions after her murder resulted in him being locked up in prison. The part that took place in prison was shocking. It's crazy how the Warden asked Kane and two other inmates to become fighters for his pleasure in betting. I enjoyed the three main characters and I grew to be attached to their brotherhood. But for the negative side, I've heard the story of a husband seeking revenge for his wife and landing in a prison with a warden who seeks entertainment too many times. If you've seen the movie Death Race, it's eerily similar. However, the twist that makes it refreshing is when the three inmates escape which leads us through a worldly journey. Overall, if you're looking for a fun, thrill seeking novel, then I recommended this book! My Rating: 4.0 out of 5 Author's Info: Wade J. Halverson is the author of the 187 book series. For the past twenty years he has owned kickboxing gyms and has worked as a bodyguard. Living in Alaska, Miami, Colorado, Thailand, and Los Angeles. He currently resides in Southern California.

You are: Calliope (nicknamed ‘Callie’ in the book), the Muse of epic poetry.
In Random Magic, Callie is the firstborn of the nine sisters. She writes all the time, has an infinite library, and knows every writer who ever was or ever will be born.
Her fiery red hair represents the power of imagination and creative ability, and the courage to see beyond what is to what could be.
Her Greek name (Kalliope) means "beautiful-voiced", and she was historically credited with being Homer’s muse, and the inspiration for the Iliad and the Odyssey.
Her son Orpheus was famous for his musical and lyrical ability, and called “the father of songs.”
In artworks depicting Calliope (Callie), she's always seen with a writing tablet in her hand. At times, she's depicted carrying a roll of paper or a book, or wearing a gold crown, to signify her incomparable talent in writing, and her role as the oldest and wisest of the Nine Muses.
In Random Magic, Winnie and Henry meet nine sisters, who inspire great works of art. These are the Nine Muses:
(Under the slide show their are summaries for each muse. Also, press the Sound button, next to the word 'Slide' to hear the music, it flows with the pics!)

*Clio is the Muse of history.
In Random Magic, Clio is only mentioned by name, and we don’t meet her, as she’s off somewhere with her magical globes and maps, trying to sort out history. Her name was derived from the Greek verb kleô, "to make famous.”
*Erato (nicknamed ‘Mori’ in the book) is the Muse of love poetry or erotic poetry.
In Random Magic, Mori is seen in the background, having a lover’s quarrel with the god of love. Her name means "desired" or "lovely" in Greek. In artworks depicting Erato (Mori), she’s often shown holding a lyre and wearing a crown of roses. She’s also often shown holding a golden arrow -- yes, like the arrows in Cupid’s bow -- in tribute to the feeling of “eros,” or erotic love, that she inspires in the hearts of mankind.
*Euterpe, sometimes spelled Efterpe (nicknamed ‘Effie’ in the book) is the Muse of lyric poetry and music.
In Random Magic, Effie is a master violinist and pianist, and composes wonderful new musical works, just by thinking about them. Her works in progress float around her head as magical musical notes. She has a pleasant, friendly and romantic personality, and she’s friends with every great composer from the past, present and future. Her Greek name means “to please,” and she was also called the “giver of delight,” in honor of her ability to inspire heavenly music. In artworks depicting Efterpe (Effie), she’s usually shown carrying a flute.
*Melpomene (nicknamed ‘Mellie’ in the book) the Muse of tragedy.
In Random Magic, Mellie is a bit of a handful, and a marvelously talented but outlandishly theatrical drama queen who’s immediately bored without an audience to appreciate her latest electrifying performance.
*Polyhymnia (nicknamed ‘Polly’ in the book) is the Muse of eloquence, sacred hymns, and pantomime.
In Random Magic, Polly’s a moody writer of theatrical or divine works of drama, who nevertheless is really cheerful and pleasant company, when she has time to look up from her latest work of art. In artworks depicting Polyhymnia (Polly), she’s often shown as being serious or pensive, dressed in a long cloak or veil, resting her elbow on a pillar.
*Terpsichore (nicknamed ‘Cora’ in the book) is the Muse of choral songs and dance.
In Random Magic, Cora is a dedicated but feisty and highly temperamental dancer and choreographer who flies off the handle with lazy dancers, or anyone who interrupts her work. In artworks depicting Terpsichore (Cora), she’s often shown accompanying her dancers on a lyre. Her name comes from the Greek words τέρπω ("delight") and χoρός ("dance"), and is the source of the English word “terpsichorean,” which means “of or relating to dance.” She’s also said to be the mother of the deadly Sirens, whose enchanted singing lured mortal men to their deaths.
*Thalia is the Muse of comedy.
We only briefly meet Thalia in Random Magic, while she’s misbehaving (again) while sliding down a celestial banister.Thalia is the eighth, and second youngest, of the Nine Muses, which is why she’s shown to be quite young in Random Magic, and why her comedy (in the book) is of the prankish, immature variety. The name Thalia is spelled Θάλεια in Greek, and derives from the same stem as θάλλειν "to bloom". In artworks depicting Thalia, she’s often shown holding a comedy mask, a shepherd’s staff, or a wreath of ivy.
*Urania (nicknamed ‘Rainy’ in the book) is the Muse of astronomy.
In Random Magic, Rainy is the baby of the family, so she’s still a newborn when we meet her. But she’ll grow up to be the celestial Muse of astronomy and astrology, which is why she’s most comfortable floating among the planets in her sister’s planetarium, in her baby bassinet of stars. In artworks depicting Urania (Rainy), she’s often shown carrying a globe in her left hand. She’s able to foretell the future by the arrangement of the stars, and seen dressed in a cloak embroidered with stars.

Henry and his world become Amy’s refuge and she begins to learn that some moments are worth savoring. Boys, Girls & Other Hazardous Materials by Rosalind Wiseman Genre: Young Adult Fiction Release Date: January 12, 2009 Publisher: Putnam Juvenile Pages: 288 Received From: Author & Publicist (Thank you again!)
Summary: Looking for a new beginning after a terrible mean girl past, Charlie Healey realizes there’s no escaping high school drama. Charlie Healey thinks Harmony Falls is the beginning of a whole new life. Middle school was brutal. But high school is Charlie’s big chance to start over and stay out of drama, except that on her first day she runs into Will, her ex–best friend, who had moved away. Now a varsity athlete and hotter than Charlie remembered, Will hangs with the crowd running the school. But Charlie doesn’t understand their power until an innocent delivery guy falls victim to a near-deadly hazing prank. Torn between doing what’s right and her secret feelings for Will, Charlie must decide whether to turn in her very best friend or live with the guilt of knowing what he did.
My Review:After reading Boys, Girls & Other Hazardous Materials, Rosalind has made my favorite debut YA author list. Her first young adult book was beautifully written. Her teenage tone was spot on and the fluidity of the story was addictive. The sense of humor throughout the chapters put a smile on my face and I caught myself giggling at times. A lot of YA books are about mean girls in high school but, Rosalind presented the total opposite. She introduced boys going through the same cycle of acceptance and how far they're willing to go to achieve it. The main character Charlie, which is short for Charlotte, had a rough time in middle school. Her group of girlfriends were popular, stuck up, mean girls that used Charlie as their toy of entertainment. Charlie's experience in high school was different compared to her previous years. She succeeded in befriending loyal girlfriends but found out that the boys lacrosse team was bad news. It consisted of jerks who were willing to put freshmen players through hell. Charlie came across some information that can put an end to this bullying or will she ignore it like everyone else? Read the book and you'll find out! I enjoyed the ending but I wanted more! I hope their will be a sequel because I learned to care for these characters and I want to see the rest of their high school years. Great debut from Rosalind and I can't wait to read her future projects! My Rating: 4.8 out of 5 Author's Info:
Rosalind Wiseman is the New York Times bestselling author of Queen Bees & Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends & Other Realities of Adolescence, which inspired the movie Mean Girls, co-written with Tina Fey. She lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband and two sons.

New Moon Movie Review: Okay, who saw New Moon yet?? I saw it last night at 10:00 p.m.! Don't worry for those that haven't seen it yet, I won't spoil anything, so keep reading :) I saw it with my boyfriend (yes I dragged him!), one of his friends (which is a die hard Twilight fan, which is awesome since he's a dude) and one of my closest friends. After work, I went to Queens, I work in Manhattan so I had to commute. Me and my friend met up with my boyfriend and his friend and we went to a buffet and stuffed our faces. I love crab legs! Yum yum. We made it at the theater by 8:00 p.m., we wanted to get there at least two hours early. Usually a long line starts developing before the movie showing. I fortunately had bought my tickets off of Fandango so I already had the precious tickets in my hand :) Inside, we literally were the second people in line! I was so happy because I knew we'd find great seats, right in the middle baby!
Now let's get down to the movie...personally I wasn't a huge fan of Twilight. I thought the acting was eh and the special effects were cheesy. But, New Moon I must say surpassed my expectations! I thought the director did a great job and I hope they use him for the other two movies as well. The special effects were better, especially during the fighting scenes. My favorite part of the movie would definitely have to be Jacob and Bella's blossoming relationship. Taylor did an amazing job as Jacob, he definitely captured the essence of his character. Also his body was phenomenal, every time he came on screen I'd gasp because he really took my breath away! I honestly am an Edward fan in the books but for some reason in the movies I kind of lean towards Jacob more. Oh well, as for Bella she was okay, I still think her acting isn't all that great and Edward was cute even when he looked sickly lol.
Throughout the movie my boyfriend kept asking me questions which I thought was adorable. He never saw the first one so that's why he was confused at times. I'm just happy he didn't fall asleep. But, as a guy that could care less about our sappy addiction to Twilight, he said, "it was wack." Typical guy response. Overall, I enjoyed it but I still feel like something is missing, I still want more! Eh, I'll never be satisfied as much as I am with the books. Oh and the ending was a total cliffhanger - even though most of us knows what happens! Okay that wraps up my thoughts, please let me know your opinions of New Moon, I'm curious to know!
